CEBU CITY, Philippines – An engineer’s vacation here in Cebu ended in the wrong turn after anti-narcotics agents arrested him for allegedly bringing in paraphernalia for illegal drugs.
A 53-year-old civil engineer was intercepted at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) on Wednesday dawn, November 22 for carrying drug paraphernalia.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7) identified the suspect as Eric Larga.
Around 1:40 a.m., enforcers at the airport flagged Larga, a passenger who was bound for Metro Manila, after x-ray machines detected that his bags contained three lighters, which are prohibited on airplanes.

When authorities opened his bag to confiscate the lighters, they also discovered a glass tooter and an improvised scoop, said Leia Alcantara, information officer of PDEA-7.
They also found what looked like residue of shabu, local term for methamphetamine, inside the glass tooter, prompting PDEA-7 to conduct a field test.
The glass tooter tested positive for shabu, Alcantara said.
“The said paraphernalia has been submitted to the PDEA 7 laboratory for confirmatory testing of the residue found in it,” she added.
Larga will be facing cases for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (Republic Act No. 9165).
