Edwin Jumao-as, the head of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM), informed CDN Digital that Pilones has diabetes and experienced hypoglycemia, affecting his ability to control his driving. Hypoglycemia occurs when the blood glucose (sugar) level is too low to provide adequate energy for normal bodily functions.
Pilones came from a condominium near the area where he initially collided with two cyclists.

Despite a motorist attempting to stop him, Pilones continued, subsequently hitting three motorcycles, a taxicab, and a private vehicle. His car crashed into a concrete barrier, crossing to the opposite lane before coming to a stop.
Due to the lack of energy caused by his medical condition, Pilones was unable to exit the car immediately.
“Believed to be low sugar siya ug gidala na siya sa hospital ron,” Jumao-as said.
Jumao-as added that the police would wait for the complainants to decide whether they wanted to pursue filing a case against Pilones.
