Celebrate homegrown music as Vispop 3.0 showcases dynamic talents and true to the (bisdak) heart songwriting on its Finals Night at 7:00 tonight at SM City Cinema One.
Now on its third year, Visayan Pop (popularly known as Vispop), is a songwriting campaign that encourages Visayan-speaking composers and music enthusiasts to write quality Visayan songs that speak of today’s generation. This movement is a brainchild of Artist KO, a non-profit, non-stock organization that supports individual creativity, skills and talent.
For the past years, Vispop finalists and winners captured the hearts of not just Cebuano listeners but non-Cebuano speaking music fans all over the country as well. It produced well-crafted songs such as “Papictura ko Nimo Gwapo,” “Laylay,” “Habak,” “Kasikas” and chart-topping hits like “Balay Ni Mayang,” “Dili Pa Panahon” and “Intergalactic Gugma.”

Vispop 1.0 and 2.0 Grand champions Jewel Villaflores and Jerika Teodorico, of the songs “Duyog” and “Labyu Langga,” respectively, have also started to create a name in the local music industry.
Now on its third year, Vispop is once again set to make waves with its new set of six finalists meticulously chosen from more than 200 entries from all over the country’s Visayan-speaking regions. Vispop 3.0 Project Manager Insoy Niñal is excited to share a dynamic mix of tunes that are sure to hit the airwaves in no time.
“This year’s line-up is more progressive. Aside from the expected ear-candy entries, this year’s songs try to challenge our usual idea of what a pop song is. Na’ay cute, pero naa puy bagsik,” Niñal said.
“We feel the pressure of coming up with songs that are equally good if not better than those from the past two years. The public is now also giving the competition a closer, more critical look. So there’s a lot of pressure. Good thing is this year’s entries did not disappoint,” he added.
Finalists vying for the title as this year’s grand champion are Earnest Hope Tinambacan and Jerry Angelo Catarata with the song “Tug Ta Tug,” Felipe Anjelo Calinawan and Therese Marie Villarante with “Bok Love,” Andy Calope with “Brgy. Blues,” Lourdes May Maglinte with “Buwag Balik,” John Stephen Cadelina and Irving Ladanan Guazon with “Pangandoy” and Adam Niel Corvera with “LQ (Sige La’g Away).”
Join the revolution and celebrate the country’s “audiosyncrasy” (idiosyncrasy plus music) with Vispop. Tickets are available in Handuraw Pizza Gorordo and at the venue for only P150 and P200. For reservations, send a private message via the Vispop Facebook page.
Vispop is supported by Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, Inc. (FILSCAP) and Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc.
