The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG-7)  has created a team to monitor the possible presence of fake rice in the market.

Senior Supt. Ritchie Posadas said Camp Crame ordered the CIDG-7 to conduct surveillance or operation on the reported proliferation of synthetic rice.

Posadas, chief of CIDG-7, said there had been reports about the presence of fake rice in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City, southern Cebu.

Margarita Mancao Navarro uploaded a video on Facebook saying she bought the fake rice for P32.50 per kilo.

Posadas said the CIDG-7 planned to invite the person who uploaded the video.

Selling of fake rice was first reported in Davao City.

Posadas said a team headed by Supt. Fermin Armendarez III will be checking on reports that fake rice has reached Central Visayas.

If the reports are proven true, Posadas said the CIDG-7 will immediately Coordinate with the National Food Authority (NFA).

Posadas said no one has come forward yet to complain that fake rice is being sold in the region.
