DILG to train neophyte mayors

THE neophyte municipal and city mayors in Cebu province are going to attend a training on the basics of local governance.

Jerome Gonzales, provincial director of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), said they have identified at least five mayors who will get a first taste of being local chief executives come July 1.

They are Vicente “Vic” Loot of Daanbantayan, Kristine Vanessa Chiong of Naga City, Carlo Martinez of Bogo City, Christina Frasco of Liloan, and Caroline Bacaltos of Sibonga.

These five officials, according to Gonzales, have been elected mayor without experience in other local government posts.

Another 18, he said, are also neophyte mayors but have experienced being vice mayor or councilor before.

“We will visit the new officials, especially the first timers. We have a training program for them. It’s called newly elected officials program,” Gonzales told reporters yesterday.

The DILG will hold an initial seminar and presentation with the new officials on June 23 and 24.
