WITH no valid contract between the Cebu City government and the operator of the private landfill in Consolacion town, all deliveries of the city’s garbage there will end on July 1.
In yesterday’s press conference, Cebu City Acting Mayor Margot Osmeña said the Inayawan landfill site will be re-opened and fully operational by that time.
The city is paying P700 per ton of garbage to Asian Energy Corp. which is trying to collect P29 million in unpaid tipping fees from the city.
“The documents from them (Asian Energy) are not yet in order. This is also another floating matter,” Osmeña said.
Asian Energy Corp. said they will continue to render their services until June 30.
In reopening the Inayawan landfill, Osmeña said they are finishing the access roads to the site.
The acting mayor said they don’t need to secure approval from the Environment Monitoring Board (EMB) to reopen the landfill.
Osmeña said they have to tend to the settlers at the landfill site.
