Body of drowning victim found near Port of Albuquerque in Bohol

Search and rescuer personnel have found the body of a man who reportedly drowned and went missing on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 1, while swimming at the port area in Alburquerque town in Bohol province.

MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – Search and rescue personnel have found the body of a 21-year-old man who reportedly drowned and went missing on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 1, while swimming at the port area in Alburquerque town in Bohol province.

The victim was identified as John Cyril Tanginan of Barangay Libjo in Sikatuna town.

Anthony Demalerio, head of the Bohol Provincial Disaster Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (BPDRRMO), said that they recovered Tanginan’s body at 12:04 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 2.

Demalerio said that Tanginan was found floating at the port area in Albuquerque town.

“[Base sa] initial [investigation] drowning incident gyud siya….. Generally, tibuok province gyud to sa Bohol nga windy ang situation, kusug gyud ang bawd,” he said.

Demalerio said that Tanginan was with five other friends when they decided to take a swim at the port area.

While they were swimming, his two other friends were swept by big waves. Demalerio said that Tanginan was able to save two of his companions but he was eventually swept by huge waves.

Demalerio said that a search and rescue operation was immediate launched after they received report on Tanginan’s drowning.

The search and rescue operation, that was ordered by Governor Erico Aris Aumentado, was made in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard and divers from Panglao town.

Moreover, Demalerio is urging Bol-anons to be cautious of the current weather condition and to continue to monitor updates from Pagasa.

Swimming is also discouraged for now, he added.

“Cautious lang, no. We ask the public to take precautionary measures kay weather system kay mailhan gyud nga hangin, kusog ang hangin,” Demalerio said. / dcb
