Argao shooting: Police detain 2 suspects, ready murder charges

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Two suspects arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman in Barangay Langtad, Argao, Cebu remain under detention at Argao Municipal Police Station as police investigate the possible motive behind the killing.
Police said they apprehended the suspects around 5:35 p.m. on Saturday, March 7. The arrest took place less than a day after the shooting incident ended the life of a 39-year-old woman in the same barangay.
Arrest after hot pursuit
Personnel of Argao Municipal Police Station launched a hot pursuit operation following the shooting, which occurred around 8:50 p.m. on Friday, March 6.
Through follow-up investigation and tracking efforts, police identified the 33-year-old suspected gunman and his 64-year-old alleged cohort.

Authorities arrested the two men in Barangay Langtad, where the crime occurred.
They recovered from the 33-year-old suspect a Colt MK IV caliber .45 pistol, a steel magazine, and three live rounds of .45 caliber ammunition. Investigators believe he used it to commit the crime.
Victim shot while seated
Initial investigation by Argao police showed that the 39-year-old victim was sitting on a wooden bench in Barangay Langtad when the suspect suddenly appeared and shot her many times.
Responding officers who arrived at the scene found the victim beside the bench, covered in blood, and lifeless.

The assailant immediately fled toward a nearby dark area after the shooting.
Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) later processed the area and recovered several personal belongings of the victim, including three ₱100 bills and a silver necklace.
Charges being prepared
Police said they brought the suspects and pieces of evidence to Argao Municipal Police Station for proper documentation.
As of Monday, March 9, the suspects remain detained at the station’s detention facility while authorities prepare to file murder charges against them.
Investigators, meanwhile, continue to determine the motive behind the killing and the extent of the suspects’ involvement in the crime.
