A BUSINESSWOMAN from Barangay Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City was issued two citation tickets with a fine of P500 each for violating the Anti-Dumping and Gaseous Waste Pollution of the Solid Waste Management Act.
The City Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (CFARMC) office ordered businesswoman Nora Daño to pay a fine of P1,000 after the sacks of shells, which included 40 pieces of top shells, an endangered shells locally called as samong, were dumped along the road near the Materials Recovery Facility in Barangay Mactan past 7 a.m. yesterday. The top shells were also seized by CFARMC.
Adelino Padilla, Agricultural Technologist of CFARMC, said Daño admitted that the seashells were shipped by her business partner Noemi Pogoy from Bacolod City and were unloaded in the area for pickup.
Daño, however, was able to present documents such as a Domestic Quarantine Clearance as proof of legality of the shipment containing mostly aninikad shells.
