Top woodpushers to join Cepca tilt

SOME of the best woodpushers will be competing in the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) 26th Anniversary Chess Cup this weekend at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Around 150 wood pushers are expected to compete in the nine-round Swiss system format competition.

Jun Olis, one of the tournament’s officials, told Cebu Daily News that those expected to join are International Master (IM) and now University of Cebu chess team head coach Kim Steven Yap, National Master (NM) Rommel Ganzon, Merben Roque, Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Arnolito Cadiz, Leonardo Alidani and Bonn Tibod.

Other noted woodpushers expected to join are University of San Jose-Recoletos’ Michael Pagaran and Felix Shaun Balbona, Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano, who now plays for the Far Eastern University (FEU), Yves Fiel, Diego Claro, Mario Mangubat, Anthony Makinano, Carlos Moreno III, Erwin Ababat, Allan Salientes, CEPCA’s Rosendo Yamyamin, Jimmy Ty, Ben Dimaano, Rey Flores, Jojo Muralla, Peterson Sia, Amado Olea and Carlo Maraat.
