Governor holds emergency peace and order meeting
Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III is presiding an emergency meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council to discuss the advisory of the United States Embassy in Manila that warned its citizens against traveling to southern Cebu to avoid the risk of being kidnapped by terrorist groups.
Among those who attended the meeting at the Capitol Social Hall which started at 10 a.m. were Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, police director for Central Visayas; Senior Supt. Eric Noble, Cebu police director; several congressmen; town mayors; department heads and resort owners.
Sen. Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, police deputy director for operations in Central Visayas, assured the PPOC members that there was no presence of terrorist groups in Cebu.
“There was no presence of Abu Sayyaf in Cebu. Central Visayas is safe from terrorist groups,” Lawas said.
Still, he added, he urged the public to remain vigilant of lawless elements.
The meeting was still ongoing.
