PARDO’S Norman Joseph Enriquez prevailed over Naga City’s John Clyde Laquio in an all-Cebuano final, 6-1, 6-0, to grab the 18-under boys’ title of the Palawan Pawnshop – Palawan Express Pera Padala (PPS-PEPP) Dagitab Festival regional tennis tournament yesterday at the City of Naga Tennis Club.
The University of the Visayas ace put a spectacular ending into what has been a sensational tournament for him as he imposed his ever-dominant form against Laquio to steal the crown.
Enriquez picked up easy victories over Ryan Dimagnaong (walkover), Pocholo Quintia (walkover) then logged a 7-6 (2), 6-1 triumph over Venz Alforque in the quarterfinals before routing RJ Singson in the semis, 6-1, 6-0.
In women’s open play, Ateneo de Manila University’s Khriszelle Sampaton outlasted Charmaine Valdez, 6-2, 6-0, to advance to the second round, where she is set to take on top-ranked Clarice Patrimonio of National University.
