The provincial government will partner with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through its agency’s cash-for-work program to provide employment at the barangay level.

Gigi Sanchez-Zaballero, consultant for barangay affairs, said the DOLE’s cash-for-work program has a P142 million budget for the province.
She said she is asking the agency to provide projects for each of the barangays in the province.

“The province will inform each barangay chairperson about their share in the program,” she said.
Zaballero said the province will focus the cash-for-work project in areas like tourism, health and wellness, environmental application, and livelihood programs.

Sanchez said workers will be hired for a minimum duration of 10 days up to 30 days, at the rate of P325 per day on various projects.

DOLE will pay for the salaries of these workers while the provincial and local governments will provide the materials.

Zaballero said the barangay officials will determine who can qualify for this program.

“The beneficiaries will have to be those that were displaced, are unemployed or were calamity victims,” she said.

Zaballero, a former provincial board (PB) member appointed by Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III for barangay affairs, said the governor has approved the initiative.

She said Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale plans to link the program to the Our Cebu program so the province can monitor its developments.
