PH MTB Nat’l Championships fires off today
MORE than 100 cyclists are expected to compete in the 2017 Philippine Mountainbike National Championships and Asian Invitational today and tomorrow at the Danasan Eco Adventure Park in Danao City, northern Cebu.
Participants will include those from around the country and some from Myanmar and Taiwan. They will be mixing it up against some of the best local cyclists such as 31-year-old Jun Duron of Rapidino Race Team.
Duron will be competing in the Master’s A cross country competition, aiming for another podium finish. In last year’s event, he placed third.
The cyclist from Talisay City said he feels good coming into the race.
“I have experienced similar routes before. I have a chance to lead compared to less experienced counterparts,” he said. “As long as my bike won’t get broken and the wheels won’t get stuck in the mud.”
Duron finished 10th in the Coupe de Japon MTB Yawatahama International MTB Race last April in Japan.
Ana Katrina Angelo, the top 3 Filipina finisher from last year, also expects a goof finish.
“But it’s unpredictable if I finish first, second or third because of the weather condition,” said the 27-year-old member of Team Trinx Philippines who went to try the trails yesterday.
