Suspension on Cesafi refs lifted

CESAFI Deputy Commissioner Marvin Panares said the suspension on referees Roland Yamelo, Melvin Caumeran and Jebrel Calma, is already lifted, thus allowing the three to continue officiating in the 17th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament.

Panares explained that during the investigation of the incident that involved the trio who officiated the wild game between University of Cebu (UC) and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), he found out that the allegations of Panthers guard Clyde Avancena was just a mere allegation, as nobody else corroborated his statement that Yamelo threatened him with bodily harm after an errant pass nearly hit the latter in the waning moments of that said game.

The only other player to have heard Avancena’s claims was forward Roy Quiachon, who did not attend the meeting last Sept. 15.

The issue was shoved back to the fore after Yamelo and Calma made their return to officiating during the semifinal game between the University of the Visayas (UV) and the University of San Carlos (USC) on Thursday.
