The Cebuano running community has something big to look forward to in 2018 as the 7-Eleven Run 2018 will hold one of its three simultaneous races in Cebu City on Feb. 4, 2018.
After its highly successful inaugural run in 2013 in Manila and due to insistent public demand, race organizers decided to hold a simultaneous run in Metro Manila, Cebu City and Davao City with huge cash prizes at stake.
The 7-Eleven Run 2018 features the same categories as last year’s which are; 42-kilometer, 21km, 10km, 16km, 10km, 5km, 5km buddy, 3k and 500-meter (Kids run).
One of the organizers, Neville Manaois who also is the race director of the prestigious Ironman 70.3 Philippines, assured participants of an enjoyable, quality footrace.
“We always have plans before to stage it here in Cebu but it did not push through and finally after several years, we are finally here. Runners have high expectations for this race so we will make sure that the 7-Eleven Run 2018 will surely be bigger and more exciting since we will be holding it simultaneously in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao,” said Manaois during the run’s official launching yesterday at the 7-Eleven regional office at the Bigfoot Building.
The run expects to draw 32,000 runners in the three simultaneous races with more than P100,000 in cash awaiting the winning runners from the three cities.
Making the race more exciting is that the organizers will award the fastest runners in the 42k and 21k divisions the right to represent the country in an international marathon in Asia next year.
“We tapped the Patafa (Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association) to measure the 42k route of the three venues to ensure the exact distance because we will recognize the top three male and female runners in the 42k and 21k who will represent our country in an international race in Asia,” added Manaois.
Cebuano race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running will supervise the Cebu race. According to Juarez, the race will start and end at the Cebu Business Park and will pass through Banilad going to Talamban where the turning point of the 42k and 21k races are. The route will also cover Osmeña Boulevard, S. Osmeña road, Labangon road, V. Rama and parts of Escario St.
The runners in the 42k and 21k can select their own wave during the gun start according to their level of speed and skill.
The race will kick off at 12 midnight since the 42k and 21k will be divided into different waves.
