YAW-YAN’S founder, Grand Master (GM) Napoleon “Nap” Fernandez, passed away last Sunday evening at his home in Bulacan.

He was 92 years old.

Fernandez founded Yaw-Yan, or “Sayaw Ng Kamatayan” (Dance of Death), in 1972 at Santa Cruz, Manila.

Before he created Yaw-Yan, Fernandez was an undefeated All-Asian and Far-East Kickboxing champion.

The largest chapter of Yaw-Yan outside Manila, the Yaw-Yan ArDigma of Master Benigno “Ekin” Caniga Jr., expressed his grief over his master’s passing.

“He groomed me to become a master of Yaw-Yan. He gave me the blessing to make my own gym. I would not be here if not for him,” Caniga said.
