34th PMPC Star Awards for Movies: Cebuano Kenneth Medrano gets new movie actor of the year nod, other nominees announced

CEBUANO actor Kenneth Earl Medrano is one of the nominees at the 34th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies.

Medrano is nominated in the New Movie Actor of the Year category for the 2017 horror-comedy film “Trip Ubusan,” where he played
Aladin, Ryza Mae Dizon’s older brother and the secret boyfriend of Taki Saito.

The good news was shared by Medrano on his Facebook account yesterday.

“OMG!! Ma sungkit o hindi masungkit ang tropeo, at least napansin po ang pag arte ko sa movie na Trip Ubusan. Yayyy!! Thank God.

First timer here! Hehehe nakaka-inspire at nakakatuwa lalo. Hehe Thank you PMPC Star awards. Okay na yung nominee ka,” he said.

“Trip Ubusan” is Medrano’s first film after winning “That’s My Bae” in the noontime show “Eat Bulaga” in 2015.

“Na-inspire kog maayo. Siyempre proud as a beginner,” the 26-year-old actor told Cebu Daily News.

“Trip Ubusan” is headlined by the “Eat Bulaga” Kalyeserye’s Lola Nidora (Wally Bayola), Lola Tidora (Paolo Ballesteros) and Lola Tinidora (Jose Manalo).

Medrano’s fellow nominees in the category are Abra (“Respeto”), Jay Castillo (“Kulay Lila ang Gabi Na Binudburan Pa Ng Mga Bituin”),
McCoy De Leon (“Instalado”), Kyle Echarri (“Seven Days”), Genesis Gomez (“Guerrero”), Ivan Padilla (“12”), Ahwel Paz (“Boy Intsik”), Raffy Reyes (“Bubog”), and Mateo San Juan (“Magkadugo”).

The awards night happens on Feb. 18 at the Resorts World Manila in Pasay City.
