ALL are good looking men but who will be the first Hari Sa Sugbo 2018?
The 14 candidates of Hari sa Sugbo 2018 were officially introduced during a press conference at St. Mark Hotel in Cebu City last Wednesday.
“It is not just a male pageant alone but we also have an advocacy in creating awareness and education on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV),” Misty Zamora, one of the organizers, told the reporters.
At least 47 men auditioned for the pageant but only 14 of them got qualified as official candidates.
They are: Cris Bernales, Ram Termulo, Venheserg Compuesto, Orland James Estologa, Odelio Duja Jr., Adrian Jose, Clarence Jacques Lim, Elcid
Camacho, Aldee Chris Samson, Bong Cata, Vann Ramos, French Petallo, Alexis Malagar, and Dan Joshua.
The organizers tapped the Cebu Plus Inc. for them to coordinate their advocacy on HIV education and awareness.
The pageant was conceptualized in the middle of 2017 by Cebuano designer Malayka Yamas.
“Malayka was talking with some close friends in Cebu and mostly are movers in the industry. When she talked about male pageant I think the nod and approval from most of her friends was the main reason for her to say yes and come up with an idea,” Zamora said.
So far, the organizers have no affiliations yet in a National Pageant but Zamora said that they are hopeful in sending this year’s winners to national competitions.
At present, the Misters of Filipinas is the biggest male pageant in the country that sends representatives for international male beauty pageants.
Cebuanos Yves Campos, Gil Wagas, and Judah Cohen are among the Misters of Filipinas winners who have represented the country in international competitions.
“I’m happy to know that we have sponsorship from Bench with the help of Cary Santiago. With Bench coming on board, we can humbly say that it is the biggest pageant (Cebu or Visayas) up to date,” she added.
The Hari Sa Sugbo 2018 grand finals night will be held at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino on February 18.
There will be four segments in the pageant: king’s costume, swimwear competition, Bench underwear, and formal wear competition.
The Hari Sa Sugbo 2018 winner will receive a “Sugbo” crown worth P50,000. The crown which is made of Swarovski Crystals was designed by Mark Anthony Tenchavez, owner of Shandar Fashion Accessories and Shandar Shoes.
“It’s all about Royalty, a King’s Crown. I designed the Sugbo Crown with the qualities for Hari sa Sugbo in mind. He must be true to his advocacy and must possess the qualities of a king,” Tenchavez said.
Aside from the crown, the Hari Sa Sugbo 2018 will take home P50,000 cash prize. The first runner-up will get P30,000 while second runner-up will receive P20,000.
