THE LONG wait is over.
After being completed last year, Cebuano romantic comedy film titled, “Magbuwag Ta Kay” headlined by Bisaya artists Akiko Solon and Rowell “Roy” Ucat, popularly known as Medyo Maldito, will finally hit SM Cinemas on March 7 nationwide.
This was announced during a press conference yesterday held at Manang Juling’s Restaurant in Mango Square, Cebu City.
The cast including Solon, Ucat, Shawna Irizari-Seniedo and Mark Anthony Abucejo, or more known as Snake Princess, were present during the press conference.
“Excited mi at the same time nakulbaan. Pero wala mi kahibalo unsay reaction sa mga tawo,” Solon said.
Ucat hopes that with their film, there will be more producers who will invest Cebuano or Bisaya films in the future.
“I’m hoping nga when they watch the film, ma realize nila nga naa pud ikabuga ang mga Bisayang artist and crew,” Ucat said.
“Magbuwag Ta Kay” is a film about a couple played by Solon and Ucat who are planning their breakup. Based on the official trailer, Solon who was introduced as Kay is leaving the country for Toronto, Canada.
Entirely shot in Cebu, the film is produced by Sunshine Lim and Charles Lim of Heritage Productions and distributed by Viva Films. It is directed by Reuben Joseph Auino and Janice Perez.
Solon, 24, who is from Lapu-Lapu City, joined showbiz in 2010 when she became a finalist of ABS-CBN’s talent search “Star Power” where Angeline Quinto was hailed as the grand winner.
Ucat, 27, originally from Bukidnon but now based in Cebu, became popular on social media because of his funny videos on Medyo Maldito Facebook page which now has more than 1.5 million followers.
Incidentally, another Viva film titled “Ang Pambansang Third Wheel” headlined by Sam Milby and Yassi Pressman will also be released on March 7.
Asked if they feel challenged or pressured, Ucat said: “Okey ra man. Lahi lahi man pud mi og market. Daghan man pud mi’g friends motan-aw.
Positive lang nga mo tan-aw sila and share to their other friends.”
Solon, for her part, said that viewers can easily appreciate the movie since there are talents and artists from Visayas and Mindanao who are in Manila who also excelled in the film industry.
“Maka-ingon ang mga Tagalog nga naa sad tay ikabuga. Kani usa sa atong pakita nila nga dili lang ta as talented pareha nila, dili sad jud ta palupig when it comes to film and talent,” she said. “Hopefully, daghan maka appreciate.”
