Volleyball action goes to the northern towns of Cebu for the resumption of the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission’s (CPSC) Governor’s Cup Volleyball Tournament today.

At the Carmen Municipal Gym in Carmen town, which is around 42 kilometers north of Cebu City, spikers from Balamban will face the volleybelles from Sogod at 3 p.m. followed by a battle between Catmon and Danao City at 4 p.m. Asturias then takes on home team Carmen in the last game at 5 p.m.

At the Santa Fe Municipal Sports Complex in Santa Fe, Bantayan Island, the team of Tuburan will be clashing with Medellin starting at 3 p.m. It will be followed by the game between Bogo City and host team Santa Fe.

This will still be the second playdate of the competition for volleybelles aged 18 and below.

According to the CPSC, everything’s going well so far in this tournament that aims to bring exciting volleyball action to the different towns of the province.

“The preparations went through successfully and smoothly thanks to the great support given by the local government units from each towns,” CPSC sports development officer III Brando Velasquez told Cebu Daily News. “I am hoping that this event will give the towns’ communities excitement.”

The tournament started last Feb. 18 at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.

Mandaue, playing in front of a home crowd, routed the hapless San Francisco squad, 25-8, 25-16, to lead the opening-day winners.

Cordova also won against Poro, 25-21, 25-16, while Dalaguete overwhelmed Oslob, 25-12, 25-13.
