‘Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino’ announces 8 official entries

NOW on its second year, the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) has announced eight Filipino films that will compete in this year’s festival.

PPP revealed the eight entries last week at Sequoia Hotel in Quezon City. All films will be shown from August 15 to 21 in cinemas nationwide.

First on the list is “Ang Babaeng Allergic sa WiFi” topbilled by Sue Ramirez, Jameson Blake, and Markus Patterson. This is the first time Ramirez and Blake are paired in a project.

The story talks about Norma (Ramirez) who suffers from electromagnetic hypersensitivity, which prevents her from using Wi-Fi and data signals.

“Ang Babaeng Allergic sa WiFi” is  directed by Jun Robles Lana. The second entry is a musical film titled, “Bakwit Boys” headlined by Devon Seron, Vance Larena, Mackie Empuerto, Ryle Paolo Santiago, and Nikko Natividad.

It is the story of four brothers called “Bakwit Boys” who have a talent for music.

Their talent was discovered by a rich girl and the four boys will be given a chance to reach their dreams.

“Bakwit Boys” is directed by Jason Paul Laxamana.

The third film is “Madilim ang Gabi” directed by Adolfo Alix Jr. The movie is starred in by Gina Alajar, Philip Salvador, and Felix Roco.

Centering on President Duterte’s campaign against drugs, it is the story of Sara (Alajar) and Lando (Salvador) whose son Alan (Roco) is missing.

The fourth entry is “Pinay Beauty” topbilled by Chai Fonacier, Edgar Allan Guzman, Janus del Prado, Nico Antonio, Hannah Ledesma, Mariko Ledesma, and Maxine Medina. Directed by Jay Abello, the film tackles the subjects of beauty and transformation.

The fifth film is “Signal Rock” directed by Chito Roño and starring Christian Bables.

Bables will play Intoy who will help his sister win a child custody battle in Finland.

The sixth entry is “The Day After Valentine’s” headlined by JC Santos and Bela Padilla. Directed by Jason Paul Laxamana, it is about Kai (Santos) and Lani (Padilla). Lani will help Kai’s family issues in Hawaii.

This is not the second time Laxamana has a PPP entry with Santos and Padilla. Last year, the two stars topbilled “100

Tula Para Kay Stella” which bagged the Audience Choice’s Award.

The seventh film is “Unli Life” headlined by Vhong Navarro and Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 Teresita “Winwyn” Marquez.

It is the story of Benedict (Navarro) and Victoria (Marquez) who have broken up. Since Benedict wants Victoria back, he does his best to correct his mistakes in the past.

“Unli Life” is directed by Miko Livelo.

The eighth entry is the Erich Gonzales-starrer “We Will Not Die Tonight.”

Directed by Richard Somes, it is about Kray, a stunt woman and aspiring actress.

According to its Facebook page, “Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino” is a nationwide and weeklong celebration from August 15 to 21 during which all cinemas will screen Filipino films only.
