The gunman in the killing of Japanese national Junko Hamada was arrested in his hiding place in Barangay Tisa, Cebu City, Tuesday afternoon (October 9).

Police also recovered a .45 caliber pistol and two medium packs of shabu from the possession of Gb Bertulfo, 29.

Bertulfo of South Hills in Barangay Tisa, admitted to killing Hamada, but he said that he was forced to accept the “job” to make sure that he has food to serve to his son.

Hamada, president of BEAMS Corporation, was shot dead while driving home to Talisay City on the evening of August 24, 2018.

Police said that two suspects on board a motorcycle were responsible for the crime.

Case investigators first arrested Maryjane Aguilar, Bertulfo’s girlfriend.

Aguilar was also the same person who was Bertulfo’s motorcycle backrider when he killed Hamada.

After a series of follow-up operations, a joint team consisting of personnel from the Criminal Investigation Detection Group (CIDG) Metro Cebu led by Supt. Melvin Montante and Mambaling police finally collared Bertulfo on Tuesday afternoon.
