Bikers and joggers are now allowed to use the seawall road of the South Road Properties (SRP) on designated hours, provided that they do not disturb other activities in the area.

The Cebu City Council passed a resolution proposed by Councilor Gerardo Carillo that will allow bikers and joggers to use the seawall road from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays.

The area will be available for their use the whole day on Sundays.

About 30 bike enthusiasts who attended the session applauded the approval of Carillo’s resolution.

Councilor Nida Cabrera sought the amendment of the house rules to allow the entry of bikers to the session hall. Council house rules require visitors to be properly dressed in attending council sessions.

“Considering that they came from biking and it is their desire to be here, we have to amend the house rules to allow them entry into the session. But next time be dressed appropriately,” said Vice Mayor Edgar Labella.

Carillo proposed for the assignment of the SRP seawall road for use of Sugbu bikers which is an umbrella organization of different bike enthusiasts’ groups in the city. Designating an area for bikers’ use is a proposal from SRP management office head Roberto “Bu” Varquez as a means to regulate their presence in the area, Carillo said.
