BREAKFAST is made good and indeed, things are getting more exciting as Yolk Coffee and Breakfast opens its new home in the bustling Filinvest Cyberzone at the IT Park in Lahug, Cebu City.
A notch ahead from the original quaint and homey café, the recently opened branch is abuzz with its edgier interiors, yet replete with their offers of creative breakfast ideas and third wave specialty coffee. Still available are their hearty variations, such as the Humba Flakes (pulled pork) Pasta, Roasted Tomato, and Fresh Basil Pasta, and the famous Chicken Pot Pie.
Coming full term as a breakfast café, Chef Pepin Ordoña said of their newest branch: “Actually matagal na that we wanted to open a branch here even before we opened the first one. We were eyeing actually to have it in IT Park pero since it was our first business we were trying to minimize the risk.
And then we were doing okay na in Mabolo so in terms of expansion, we always wanted to have it here in IT Park pero natagalan lang din ‘yung availability ng space kasi when we asked around, 2019 pa dapat.”
Craving for rice dishes? Yolk Coffee offers Beef Tapa with Rice and Humba with Rice.
Also making it to the new menu is Yolk Zilogs: Humba Flakes (crispy pulled pork), Salted Egg Chicken (breaded chicken with salted egg sauce), Maple Bae (maple bacon) and the Beefy Melts (shredded corned beef with mushroom sauce).
Chef Pepin shared that the old favorites are still there.
“Although we added the Silog line, we also now have the Salted Egg Chicken, Mapled Bacon and the rest, like the Humba Flakes or the Pulled Pork Humba and of course our Homemade Corned Beef. Also, we have the wraps like the Spicy Chicken, Hungarian Crunch, and the Mexican-inspired steak,” he said.
The new branch just opened October this year. It can accommodate a total of 70 seats and is open from 6 a.m. to 11:45 p.m.
Ordoña said, “Kasi ‘yung sa previous branch it was kind of homey and rustic. This one we wanted it more to be edgy and younger ‘yung feel. Pero the design elements we wanted it similar nung sa first branch like with the image of the painted world map and the shelves.”
By upping the ante on breakfast essentials, we get a sense that Yolk Coffee and Breakfast clearly knows what their customers want. And that Linear Coffee Roasters, the “real deal coffee” that rivals branded establishments, has made an offering in perfect breakfast indulgence.
“Actually the coffee beans, we now get it from Linear Coffee Roasters. So we partnered with them kasi dati we had to import beans pa so it was a bit difficult and then when they opened here, we worked with them to have our own blend. So ‘yung espresso blend namin is specially made for Yolk,” Ordoña said.
The chef added, “That goes also with our white brew because you know naman we don’t serve ice blended coffees or frappes kasi sayang naman here we are we’re serving specialty blend coffee. Ang mahal mahal ng beans tapos you just cover it up with syrup.”
Also a treat for diners are performances from 22 Tango artists for the featured Cuppafolk series done at least once a month.
“The idea kasi namin for the place is it’s going to be also a haven for the artist to so we’ll have music performances,” he said.
With mornings, breakfast, and good food, it’s all bright and sunny as Yolk Coffee and Breakfast looks forward to more expansions in other cities in the Visayas and Mindanao.
