The Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) has started to act on complaints against skaters who use the city’s main thoroughfares and imperil road safety

Yesterday, Citom traffic aides apprehended three people and confiscated their skateboards in the downtown area.

Citom operations head Joy Tumulak told Cebu Daily News that they have received several complaints about these skateboards and roller blades riders.

Tumulak said a city ordinance bans any person on roller blades or skateboards “upon any roadway except while crossing the street.”

The same ordinance also prohibits any person riding upon bicycle, motorscooter, coaster, roller skates, or any toy vehicle to “attach the same or himself to any moving vehicle upon any roadway.”

“Usually, they go out and play during afternoon and evening,” Tumulak said.

Tumulak explained that they will not issue warnings to violators but will immediately confiscate skateboards and roller blades.

Owners of the confiscated items will have to pay a fine of P500 and if the violator is a minor, the parents or guardian are to accompany the child when claiming the item.

Last night, Citom enforcers continued with their operation in Osmeña Boulevard, N. Bacalso Avenue and the Mambaling area.
