Cebu City, Philippines—Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña will be asking the Commission on Election (Comelec) to put Cebu City under their control following alleged police brutality in the city.
Osmeña, during the 888 Forum on Tuesdsay, May 7, 2019, urged the Comelec to look after the welfare of the Cebu City voters, who he claims are threatened due their fear of the police.

The mayor said he understands this will be difficult because the Comelec is reliant on the police to provide a recommendation on whether an area should be placed under Comelec control.

“The enemy is the police. If they are the ones to provide the recommendation, then we are doomed,” said Osmeña.
He hopes that Comelec will look into the situation beyond the reports of the police and look into what is truly happening on the ground.

The mayor said that the Comelec should not turn a blind eye on the happenings in the city, which includes the recent strafing incidents. /bmjo
