American singer Lauv treated Cebuano fans with some of his hits and at the same shared some words of wisdom in his concert at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino here on Tuesday, May 21, 2019.
The 24-year-old singer from Los Angeles performed during his Cebu concert some of his more popular songs such as “I Like Me Better,” which was part of the official soundtrack of the 2018 Netflix film, “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.”
Other songs he sang were “Paris on the Rain,” “Comfortable,” “Paranoid.” “The Other,” “Reforget,” “The Story Never Ends”, “Enemies,” “Come Back Home,” “Question,” “Easy Love,” “Adrenaline,” “Chasing Fire,” “Breathe,” “Bracelet,” “Getting Over You,” and “Never Not.”
Lauv expressed gratitude to his fans who came out to watch his first Cebu concert.
“It is such an honor to be here. This is my first time in Cebu. I have been in Manila three times, I am so so happy to be here now. I can feel all the energy. I appreciate you guys so much,” he said.
But it wasn’t only music that the American singer shared to his Cebuano fans.
Lauv also tackled mental health awareness, reminding everyone to take care of themselves.
“It is important for people to look at the health of our minds, the same way we look at the health of our body,” he said in one of his performances.
The American singer admitted that he once experienced depression and anxiety. For him, these concerns should not just be taken for granted.
“I thought I was guilty. I feel like a shame. I felt like am not connected to anybody,” he said.
He said that depression can suck a person’s reality, which can cause someone to lose hope and faith.
“It is important that everyone talks about it. It is important that everyone is there for each other,” he said.
In one of his performances, Lauv talked about expressing oneself before he performed his song, “Superhero.”
He encouraged his fans to express or write their feelings unfiltered.
“It could be something that is bugging you today, something that even holding you on, and something that you are afraid to say,” he said.
The American singer believes that people try to be a certain version of themselves to please others due to pressures in life and the presence of social media.
“We are not just the people that we are. We are like a brand, instead. I don’t like that,” he added. /bmjo
