CEBU CITY, Philippines — Police officers in Mandaue City will conduct more checkpoints and more “Oplan Bakal Sita” operations to address the recent killings and dumping of bodies in certain areas around the city.

Police Colonel Jonathan Abella, MCPO chief, said in a phone interview with CDN Digital on August 17 that these were among the measures they would implement as a deterrent to these crimes in the city.

Abella said that after another body was found in Barangay Casili last Wednesday night (August 14), he called all station heads for an emergency meeting on Thursday morning, August 15, to discuss what measures they would take to address the killings.

Aside from the conducting more checkpoints, and implementing the Oplan Bakal Sita operations, police will also apprehend minors caught past the curfew hours.

“Ang mga minors nga mo lapaw sa curfew atoa imake sure maka uli (We will make sure that those minors who will be caught still on the streets past curfew will be able to go home),” said Abella.

Oplan Bakal Sita involves police going on roving patrols in the city and checking crowded areas during the night time.

Abella said that Oplan Bakal Sita would help in keeping the people safe during nighttime as this would increase the police presence in the city./dbs
