CEBU CITY, Philippines — Admission to the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo ritual dance competition at the Cebu City Sports Center this Sunday, August 25, will be free of charge to the public.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said the Capitol maintains the free admission policy for the event despite suggestions for tickets to be sold, similar to the Sinulog Festival grand parade.

Garcia earlier said that the Pasigarbo is one avenue to promote the towns and cities of the province.

Dubbed as the festival of festivals, the 44 contingents of the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo will showcase the festivals of their respective towns.

Pasigarbo sa Sugbo will start with a street dance parade from the Capitol grounds to CCSC through the Osmeña Boulevard at 2 p.m. The ritual dance competition at the CCSC will be held at 6 p.m.

Garcia said she invited Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to the event but the latter has a prior engagement abroad.

Regional and provincial directors of national line agencies will be the VIP guests for the event, Garcia said.

“There were suggestions that ibaligya ang (we sell the) ticket but I said ever since libre man gyud na ang Pasigarbo so it will be on free admission,” she added.

Garcia also said that the financial assistance for the participating towns and cities were being processed.

“As long as they submit their resolution for the financial assistance… I think more than half of the participants have already submitted their resolution and their checks are being prepared. We are also calling up those who have not submitted yet,” the governor said partly in Cebuano.

Participating towns from mainland Cebu will receive P500,000 each while those coming from the islands, like Bantayan and Camotes, will receive P700,000 each. / elb
