The Sandiganbayan found Aloguinsan Mayor Cynthia Moreno and seven other government officials guilty of corruption in a decision released June 5.

The case stemmed from the complaint of former councilor Felimon Georsua Jr. concerning the irregular purchase of aluminum composite panels amounting to P1.19 million for a municipal building in 2007.

The officials involved were Nengasca; Pepito Manguilimotan, municipal civil registrar and Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) chairman; Nonela Villegas, municipal budget officer; Marilyn Flordeliza, municipal agricultural officer; John Lim, municipal assessor; Emilia Luz Celis and Gertrudes Ababon, utility workers and BAC members.

The Sandiganbayan decision means Moreno and other officials will be penalized with six to 10 years imprisonment and are perpetually disqualified from holding public office.
