Truck transporting thresher sharks seized in Naga town, Cebu (Gary Cases)

A truck found to be transporting thresher sharks bound for a Lapu-Lapu City fish ball processor was apprehended in Naga City, Cebu by the Cebu Provincial Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force at 10:30 a.m. today.

Task force head Loy Madrigal said the driver of the Isuzu Elf truck alleged that the sharks originally came from Siaton town in the neighboring province of Negros Oriental.

Marine Biologist Gary Cases, who was asked by the task force to check the meat loaded in the truck, confirmed that it was thresher shark. According to Cases, there were 14 packed skins of shark meat, including a “big torso.”
