MANDAUE CITY, Philippines — The Mandaue City COVID-19 vaccine board has pared down the 22 vaccination sites to only 8 vaccination areas, which the board has already inspected today, March 12, 2021.
City Councilor Nerissa Soon-Ruiz, overseer of the vaccination, coordination, and implementation team of the city’s COVID-19 vaccine board said this was in line with the Department of Health’s protocol to cluster barangays to utilize the manpower and logistic supplies.

“According to the DOH protocol, it would be better nga icluster-cluster kay we will have less manpower to man kay kung ato i by barangay ang imong mga tawo, grabeng daghana, logistic wise gasto ba. Imagine butangan og one ambulance, emergency tanan,” said Ruiz.
(According to the DOH protocol, it would be better to cluster the barangays because we will have fewer manpower to man [this vaccination areas]. If we will make it by barangay, there will be more personnel and logistics wise these will be a bigger expense to maintain. Imagine, we will have to have one ambulance and emergency personnel.)
Ruiz added that Mandaue Mayor Jonas Cortes planned to install an air conditioning unit in the vaccination rooms and post-vaccination areas at the identified public schools so that the vaccinees would be comfortable.

The 8 identified vaccination sites were Jagobiao Elementary School, Basak Elementary School, Cabancalan Elementary School, Ateneo De Cebu, and ground areas or lower ground parking areas of the four hospitals namely the Chong Hua Hospital Mandaue, Maayo Wellness Hospital, Mother and Child Hospital Mandaue, and Seamen’s Hospital which they have already inspected the areas.
Subangdaku Barangay Captain Ernie Manatad, chairman of the vaccine board, said this would also be better because this could boost the confidence of the residents to be vaccinated since some of the sites would be within the hospital.
“Dili na ta magproblema og compute-compute kung pila ang oras ang referral hospital if in case adunay after effects, unay na sa ospital ground na gyud. It will add confidence to our vaccinees nga naa ra pod sila sa ospital gitirahan,” said Manatad.
(We will not have to worry about computing for how much time to reach the referral hospital if in case somebody will experience after effects because we are in the ground floor of the hospital. It will add confidence to our vacinees that they will be vaccinated at the hospital.)
Manatad said that although there would only be eight vaccination sites, the 27 vaccination teams would be maintained.
