Cebu teams gear up for more online chess action in Wesley So Cup

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Online chess action continues tomorrow, June 19, 2021, for the four Cebu-based teams or Cebu teams in the ongoing Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Wesley So Cup Conference.

The four Cebu teams are the Cordova Dutchess Dagami Warriors, Toledo City Trojans, Lapu-Lapu Naki Warriors, and the Cebu City Machers who will be taking on north division teams from Luzon. 

The Dutchess Dagami Warriors are looking to extend their winning streak by taking on the Pasig City King Pirates and Olongapo Rainbow Team 7 in their two-scheduled matches. They won all their matches in last Wednesday, June 16’s action. They are currently second in the south division standings with a 15-2 win loss record.

Dagami is manned by playing team owner Ariel Potot, National Master (NM) Merben Roque, Women’s International Master (WIM) Bernadette Galas, Mario Mangubat, Michael Joseph Pagaran, Bryle Arellano,Allan Pason, and their import Grand Master (GM) Nitzan Steinberg of Israel.

Meanwhile, the Trojans are looking to redeem themselves after losing all their matches last Wednesday against the Laguna Heroes and the Manila Indios. With the back-to-back defeats, the Trojans dropped to fifth place in the standings with 11-6 (win-loss) card. 

They will be playing against the Isabela Knight Raiders and the Cavite Spartans tomorrow. The team is comprised of National Master (NM) Rogelio Enriquez, Jr., Jinky Catulay, International Master (IM) Rico Mascariñas, Richard Natividad, Glicerio Pardillo Jr., Ronald Ganzon, Rommel Ganzon, Bon Rainauld Tibod, playing team co-owner Lawyer Jeah Jean Gacang, and their import GM Amir Bagheri of Iran.  

On the other hand, the Naki Warriors are also seeking a good comeback following their two-game losing skid last Wednesday by going up against the San Juan Predators and the Rizal Batch Towers. The Naki Warriors are currently at the seventh place in the standigns with 6-11 record. 

The Machers, who are at the ninth place in the south division standigns are scheduled to face the Rainbow Team 7 and the Indios.
