Labella wants inventory of adventure tour sites

ACTING Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella called for an inventory of adventure and eco-tourism sites in Cebu City’s 80 barangays so both city and barangay officials could draft guidelines for visitors of these sites.

Labella said the operation and maintenance of adventure and eco-tourism sites could also be a revenue source for the barangays since their residents can be employed as tour guides or lifeguards. Even barangay residents can set up stores and souvenir shops in the area, Labella said.

“Farmers from the mountain barangays will no longer be dependent on farming and they will no longer have to come down to the urban centers to look for jobs,” he said.

Labella visited the Kabang Falls in the mountains of Budlaan last Wednesday. He issued a memorandum to the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) directing the 80 barangays to set guidelines on their tour sites.

“Adventure tourism, such as spelunking or the exploration of caves, mountain climbing, canyoneering, river rafting and diving, pose physical risks (not present) in traditional forms of tourism,” he said.
