Seniors to get P2,000 today

SENIOR citizens in Cebu City will each receive P2,000 today as a third installment of cash assistance from City Hall.

This is part of the promised P12,000 annual subsidy for each elderly resident with half of it released in cash, said acting city treasurer Diwa Cuevas.

“We would have wanted to give more than P2,000 but we also have a loan to prioritize,” said city administrator Lucelle Mercado.

“Maybe in the coming months we will be able to give more to our seniors.”

The cash aid will be distributed in barangay sports centers from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, except for barangays San Roque and Tinago whose sports centers are used as shelter for fire victims.

Distribution for the two barangays will be at their barangay halls.

Cuevas said today’s distribution would be simultaneously done in the morning so that none of the elders would be made to wait for their turn.

The city set aside around P115 million for the aid.

The city government is set to pay a P220 million amortization with JICA on August 20 for the South Reclamation Project-loan.

City Hall included in this year’s budget an outlay for P12,000 assistance each for about 60,000 registered senior citizens.
