CEBU organizers aim to break the world record by mounting the largest human pink ribbon formation and largest Zumba class at the SM City Cebu North Wing parking area at 3 p.m. on Oct. 18.
Lita Quisumbing of Cebu ZIN said the twin activities with the Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente will draw participants from Cebu, Bohol, Dumaguete and other parts of the Visayas.
The activities are part of the observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
Quisumbing said Guinness Book of World Record adjudicators were invited to record the number of participants of the activities.
India holds the world record with 6,847 participants in the Largest Human Pink Ribbon Formation and 6,671 in the Largest Zumba Class.
“About 20,000 participants is the dream number but 10,000 would be realistic,” Quisumbing said in a press conference yesterday.
Participants have to wear pink T-shirts and rubber shoes for both events.
“We want people to know that when you see the color pink on October 18, you’ll be reminded to visit your doctor for a health checkup,” said Meanne Solomon of the Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente and I Can Serve Foundation.
Solomon said proceeds of the events will support free mammograms of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. Around 300 zumba instructors of Cebu Zin are assigned to assist the participants.
Registration fee is P50 for those who sign up until Sept. 30, P100 for those who register by Oct. 1 to 17 and P150 for those who register on the day of the event.
