CEBU CITY, Philippines — The COVID-19 vaccination of two lucky Cebu City residents paid off on the city’s 85th Charter Day celebration.
The city government held the grand raffle draw for its PaBakuna Bonanza on February 22, 2022, since its launch on November 2021.
A lucky resident of Sitio Cabanbanan in Barangay Sirao, Armando Semblante, won the draw’s top prize of house and lot plus motorcycle.
Another lucky resident of Sitio Waling-waling in Barangay Pahina San Nicolas, Kenchi Abrio, won a new Toyota Vios.
Four others won P20,000 worth of groceries and merchandise on the same day, wrapping up the grand raffle draw of the city government’s vaccination program.
Mayor Michael Rama said the PaBakuna Bonanza was a way to increase the vaccination percentage of the city back in 2021 when many people still hesitated to get the vaccine.
Over P2 million worth of prizes were distributed to residents over the span of three months since it was launched.
In the one week leading to the Cebu City Charter Day, at least 50 sacks of 50 kilos of rice, 50 electric fans, electric flat iron, 37 flat screen smart television sets, 21 gift certificates, 10 washing machines, and 40 hotel gift certificates were raffled off.
All raffle items were donated by the private sector for the program.
Winners may claim their prizes at the Office of the Mayor by bringing their vaccination cards and identification cards.
Rama said they are looking into holding another raffle before or after the May 9 elections to entice more residents to get the booster shot, but this has not yet been finalized.
For now, he is satisfied with the vaccination achievement of the city reaching more than 70 percent of its target population, and is looking forward to the vaccination of the city’s minors for the eventual return of face-to-face classes.
