CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City police appeal to political supporters not to resort to violence over differences in political stands.

This reminder from the police stemmed from a report that an SK official allegedly harassed a group of political supporters in a bar located in barangay Mabolo, Cebu City on Friday dawn, February 25, 2022.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, deputy director for operations of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said the incident took place just hours after Robredo’s campaign rally in Cebu City which the complainants attended.

Parilla said that as election draws near, candidates and their supporters become intense as well as he reminds the public to not engage in violence in dealing with rival groups and candidates.

“Dili lang nato ibutang na musangkot ta sa panaglalis, sa physical nga butang, aron lang pagpakita sa suporta nato…kung duna man gani tay gi suportahan, not to the point na makapasakit ta or makalapas sa balaod,” Parilla said.

Parilla was referring to the incident involving supporters of Vice President Leni Robredo who were allegedly harassed by an SK official from Cebu province.

According to Parilla, the victims claimed that the SK official approached them and said that the party is nonpartisan.

The victims reportedly tried to explain to the SK official that they were not in the bar as Leni supporters but individuals who wish to enjoy and have fun.

Parilla could not disclose how many Leni supporters were in the bar but said that at least two of them were collared by the SK official. He added that the victims’ shirts were ripped off and the necklaces they were wearing were broken.

Parilla, however, begged off to disclose any more information about the victims as they are still waiting for them to file formal complaints against the SK official.

Parilla, however, hopes that the incident could be resolved at the barangay level.    /rcg
