200 families displaced by barrio Luz fire

UPDATED, 6:53 p.m.

The fire in Barrio Luz destroyed at least 80 houses.

An estimated 200 families were displaced by the fire. Fire Marshall Rogelio Bongabong of the Cebu City Fire Department pegged damages at P700,00. He said the fire was under control nearly one hour after it broke out psat 3 p.m.

According to barangay chairman Jerome Pagador, the blaze originated from the home of a certain “Eding.” He says children playing with fire are believed to have caused the fire.

Pagador says they are currently preparing the school premises of Barrio Luz elementary and High School as an evacuation center. As of this writing, investigation is ongoing.
