LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines — Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has announced on Monday morning, July 4, 2022, that city hall employees can expect a pay raise or increase in their salary.

Chan made the announcement during the first flag-raising ceremony of his second term as mayor of the city.

The mayor said that the salary increase had been included in the proposed 2022 annual budget that was still pending in the city council.

“Kung inyong aprubahan ang 2022 budget, naa diha ang increase sa sweldo sa mga trabahante,” said Chan to the city council.

Chan urged the city council to approve the annual budget within this week.

Aside from the increase in the employees’ salaries, the budget for the repair of offices and facilities that were devastated by super typhoon Odette was also included in the annual budget.

“Labi na dinhi sa atoang palibot makita nato. Dili nato ikalimod nga nangagusbat ang mga atop nga gibilin ni bagyong Odette. Wala nato mapaayo tungod kay wala pa maaprubahi ang atong budget,” he added.

(Especially here in our surroundings, we can see. We cannot deny that the typhoon Odette destroyed roofs of the houses here. We cannot help fix them because our budget was not approved.)

Chan is confident that the annual budget would already be approved, with the help of the new set of councilors in the city council.

The new councilors in the city, who won in the May 9 elections, are all allies of the mayor under the Team Ahong-Team Libre, including reelected Vice Mayor Celedonio “Celsi” Sitoy.
