FC Barcelona Escola, which wrapped up its four-day football camp in Cebu, is planning to establish a football school in the Philippines soon and Cebu is included in the list of targeted locations.

Nicholas Reyes of team Socceroo FC, who was one of the organizers of the football camp, said this if this pushes through, it will surely be a huge boost for local football.

“They are opening a football school here in the country, but they did not disclose where. We are very excited to hear about it because it will surely boost football in the country,” Reyes said.

Reyes also revealed next year’s cities where FCBE plans to hold more football camps. These are Davao, Iloilo and Cagayan de Oro.

The four-day Cebu leg capped off yesterday with flying colors at the Aboitiz Sports Field at the Mandaue  Reclamation Area in barangay Subangdaku.

Reyes said he and the coaches from Barcelona were overwhelmed by the success of the football camp.

“The trainers of FC Barcelona were very impressed with the talent here in Cebu. They said that the grassroots here in Cebu has really reached another level.”

The football camp aimed to contribute in the development of football in the Philippines.

The training was patterned after FC Barcelona’s philosophy and methodology.

The football camp initially targeted to cater eight underprivileged footballers in Cebu, but they were surprised that the number reached 40  after private entities started to sponsor talented young players to join the prestigious football camp to further enhance their skills.

“The FC Barcelona brand was well accepted by Cebuanos. A lot of groups already approached us and thanked us for conducting this kind of event here in Cebu.” Reyes said.
