CEBU CITY, Philippines — The AEG Building Prints won the title of the 4th Cebu Architects Basketball Club (CABC) Corporate Cup by defeating Boysen Paints, 74-60, in the championship match last Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the PAREF Springdale gymnasium.

Dexsel Caadan led AEG with his double-double performance of 19 points and 15 rebounds to go with 5 assists, 7 steals, and 2 blocks.

Caadan was named the finals “Most Valuable Player,” after his stellar performance.

Chester Hinagdanan of Boysen had a double-double performance of 16 points with 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block. His teammate Michael Judilla chipped in 12 markers.

AEG became the first champion of the Corporate Cup after the league took a two-year break due to the on-set of the pandemic.

The championship match saw three lead changes and two deadlocks with AEG leading as much as 18 points, 74-56, in the final period. Before that, they were trailing Boysen with an 11-point deficit,15-26, in the first half, but turned the tables in the second half.

“We’re excited to be able to play basketball and compete with our fellow architects. Most of us nabag-ohan pa kaayo og duwa since taas gyud og break pagsugod sa season. But gradually nibalik rapud ang mga abilidad. Sa among basketball club alone, daghan maayo manuwa og basketball and heavy najud ang competition daan,” said Gabison.

(We’re excited to be able to play basketball and compete with our fellow architects. Most of us felt like new to the game due to the long break at the start of the season. But gradually, our abilities returned. In our basketball club alone, there are a lot of players who are good in basketball and the competition here is already tough.)

“We are going to defend our title for the next season of course which is the Buildrite Cup. It will start next month maybe. Ang among nasabutan is us the champion team kay solid gihapon among line-up, while ang losing teams magdraft og new players (What we agreed upon is us the champion team, our lineup will be solid, while the losing teams will draft new players).”

AEG’s title-winning campaign earned them the advantage to keep their current roster for the next season, while the rest of the competing teams need to draft new rosters of their own.

Meanwhile, Buildrite placed third in the league after defeating Unitec Pipes, 80-71.
