No vacation for Cebu City Hall workers next month

By: Jose Santino S. Bunachita November 20,2014 - 10:17 PM

No vacation leaves will be granted to Cebu City Hall employees next month.

The Human Resource and Development Office (HRDO) issued a memorandum to all employees last Nov. 10 stating that they won’t grant any leave applications for December.

“We decided to issue the memo so as not to hamper transactions at City Hall and to avoid delays in payments. There are also City Hall activities that need involvement of employees,” HRDO chief Dominic Diño said.

He said this was agreed at  a meeting of  department heads earlier this month.

Dino said exemptions can be made for application of sick, maternity, paternity and magna carta leaves.

But Dino said this will be subject to mandatory submission of documents like medical certificates.  Department heads have the discretion to approve these leaves, he said.

Dino said based on previous years, most employees take their vacation leaves during December in time for Christmas.

“Although it is understandable that we want to take a break on December, we should also think that what we are doing is for public service,” he added.

He said applications for regular leaves will be disapproved.  Those who will be absent will be marked AWOL or absent without official leave and without pay.

He said the respective department heads will evaluate the specific circumstances of each employee’s request.
