MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – Policemen in Mandaue City continue to investigate the claims of a female guard that she lost P200, 000 worth of cash and jewelry to a still unidentified thief last June 8.
Police Captain Roberto Pepito, chief of the Centro Police Station, said they continue to look for witnesses and CCTV footage that would give them a closer look at the suspect.
What they have so far, according to Pepito, are the claims of security guard Mary Ann Cantila and a “blurry” CCTV footage which they secured from the company that she works for.
Pepito said that the image that was captured on CCTV appears to be “petite.” However it was difficulty for them to determine if the image was that of a man or a woman. They could not also determine what the alleged thief was wearing.
In addition to this, Pepito said they are also trying to dig deeper into the incident after Pepito retracted her earlier statement that the theft could be an inside job.
Cantila later on told the police that someone from the outside may have entered their company’s compound in Barangay Alang-alang and took her bag where the cash and jewelry were placed.
“Niingun na pod siya dunay lain tawo nisaka sa gate, so amo lang una’ng klarohon pero apil sad na sa amoang gisubay ang inside job. Tanan-tanan niyang gipangsulti amoa nang gipangsubay. If maka-establish mig laing anggulo amoa sad subayon. So, sa pagkakaron wide pa kaayo ang anggulo. We will narrow it down [soon]. Once ma narrow [down] na namo, ma prove na namo, ma conclude na nato [unsa gyud ang nahitabo],” said Pepito.
Cantila claimed that she placed her cash and jewelry inside her bag which she kept at the guard house. These were stolen while she was patrolling the premise of the company that she was securing at dawn on June 8.
The female guard visited the Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) last June 9 to inquire if they have CCTV footage that may have caught the thief, who jumped over the gate of their company.
But she was told by CDRRMO personnel that the camera that was installed close to her workplace was not working and needed to be fixed.
Meanwhile, Pepito is urging Mandauehanons to always exercise caution.
He said it was unwise to bring huge amount of cash and jewelry at the workplace.
