Mayor Chan willing to dance at next year’s Sinulog

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan wowed the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo crowd last Sunday with his spirited portrayal of Datu Lapulapu. 

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan is open to performing at the Sinulog Festival in January 2024.

Last Sunday, August 27, 2023, Chan performed during the “Pasigarbo sa Sugbo” wherein he portrayed Datu Lapulapu and played kata or Arnis.

Chan’s performance drew loud applause from the crowd.

The Lapu-Lapu Arnis de Abanico was a guest contingent during the “Pasigarbo sa Sugbo.”

“Next year man gani mangandam seguro, magsugod nako ug practice ana nga daghag steps na, daghan na ug klase kun unsaon nako pagsayaw,” Chan said.

The mayor said that he was only able to practice for two hours for his performance last Sunday.

Chan also thanked those who were impressed by his performance.

“Kaloy-an sa Ginoo, murag nahugyaw man sad sila no. Nangutana man sad ang ubang mayor kung pila ko ka adlaw nag-practice ato, duha ka adlaw raman gyud,” he added.

Aside from giving joy to spectators, Chan said that his performance was a form of support to the Cebu Provincial Government and the One Cebu Island community.    /rcg
