CEBU CITY, Philippines — The body of the dead 61 year-old fisherman, who went missing during a fishing trip at night, was found along the shoreline of Barangay Catarman in Liloan town, northern Cebu on early Saturday morning, September 2, 2023.
Police, based on its investigation, believed that the victim probably drowned.

Fishing, went missing
The fisherman was allegedly fishing with a friend, Marlon Labajo, at around 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 1, on the seas in Sitio Mahogany in the barangay.
However, three hours later, Labajo could not find his companion anywhere.
Police Major Eric Gingoyon, in his report, identified the victim as 61-year-old Nelson Cuyos, married, and a resident of Sitio Dapdap, Barangay Catarman.

Search for missing fisherman
Labajo told the police in the initial report that after realizing that his companion was nowhere to be found, he immediately asked the assistance of Bantay Dagat divers to find him.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Jason Gayo, desk officer at the Liloan Police Station, told CDN Digital in a phone interview, that at around 10:00 p.m., divers immediately conducted a search and rescue operation for the missing man.
He said that despite the divers’ efforts to find the 61 year-old man missing at sea during the night, they were unable to find him.

Fisherman believed to have drowned
Gayo said that the the body of the dead Cuyos, who was presumed to have drowned, was found hours after his disappearance at around 7:10 a.m. along the shoreline.
The alleged drowning incident was reported to the Liloan Police Station on Saturday morning, according to Gayo.

Autopsy to be conducted
He also said that an autopsy examination would be done on the victim’s body to determine his cause of death.
The victim’s family had yet to claim the victim’s body, which was brought to the Maturan Funeral Homes, said Gayo.
Liloan is a first-class municipality located approximately 22 kilometers north of Cebu City.
