CEBU CITY, Philippines — AEG Building Prints successfully defended their title in the Cebu Architects Basketball Club (CABC) 5th Corporate Cup on Sunday, September 24, 2023, after they defeated Boysen Paints, 85-74, in the championship showdown held at the Benedicto College gymnasium.
Team captain Bong Gabison left everything on the floor to give his team the title after dropping a double-double performance of 22 points with 16 rebounds.
Gabison added five assists and three blocks in his title-winning performance which also earned him the “Most Valuable Player” plum.
Joseph Cabigas and Duane Anino each scored 12 points and Dexsel Caadan added 10 markers for the champion team.
Boysen Paints’ Abet Ceniza scored 14 points, while former league MVP Chester Hinagdanan and Criz Matunog chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively.
AEG endured 10 lead changes and four deadlocks before building a huge 16-point lead, 73-57, in the final period en-route to win the title.
The champion team banked on their fastbreak points which yielded them 24 points, while their points in the paint provided the team 44 and their bench contributed 41 points.
In the battle for third, Modern Windows beat Diamond Built, 90-74, behind Anthony Bajenting’s 37-point performance.
Bajenting also grabbed 12 rebounds, seven steals, and four assists to tow his team in placing third in the league. Teammate Lemuel Aspacio scored 24 points.
Diamond Built’s Al Marquita had 16 points while Junel Oga and Mark Paradero each tallied 14 points in their loss. / dcb
