Artera, Agalons, and Pray Boys nip foes in MPBA Season 2

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Artera Builders, Agalons, and Pray Boys took care of business in their respective games in Mandaue’s Pride Basketball Association (MPBA) Season 2: Cebuano Cup held on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the Cebu Port Authority Gymnasium. 

Artera Builders edged Darchy’s, 102-96, with Rey Gonzaga firing on all cylinders with his 19-point outing. Jeff Michael Gudes also had a field day, contributing 17 points for Artera Builders. 

Dennise Dela Cerna and Arnold Quilaton combined for 21 points for Artera Builders which now improved their record to 2-0 (win-loss) in the north conference. 

Ravi Herda and John Earl Villamor scored 25 and 21 points, apiece, but failed to give Darchy’s their first win in two games. 

Meanwhile, six of Pray Boys’ players tallied double-digit scores in their 108-97 victory against Void, also in the north conference. 

Danillo Contado topscored Pray Boys with 16 points, while Bryan Oliverio, Wilmer Paloma, and Graggy Sarahina each scored 13 points. 

Mark Quiapo and Royet Varga contributed 11 and 10 points each for Pray Boys who earned their first win in two games to tie their record with Void. 

RenRen Sasan had 26 points, while Maczi Mcutuan added 20 points in Void’s losing efforts. 

On the other hand, James Ferraren unloaded a double-double game of 26 points and 11 rebounds as the Agalons trounced Angel Mary, 96-80, in the lone southern conference game. 

Joseph Cabahug chipped in 18 markers, while Renren Arsenal had 14 and Jiji Baguio added 10 points for the Agalons who remained undefeated in two games. 

John Gequilan also scored 26 points, but it wasn’t enough to give Angel Mary its second win in three games. Kidd Tuba-an added 16 markers and Klied Ochavo with 12 points in Angel Mary’s loss. / dcb
