Toledo double murder suspect nabbed

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu- The suspect in the killing of a father and daughter in Toledo City has been arrested and has admitted to the crime.
Kevin Avelis, 31, expressed anger towards the family of the victims, identified as Zorovavel Edoloverio, 48, and his daughter Zyphaliah “Honey” Edoleverio, 18, for previously filing trespassing charges against him.

Trespassing case triggered stabbing attack
Avelis had been arrested in connection with the trespassing cases but was able to post bail. Unfortunately, he later stabbed Zorovavel and Zyphaliah to death around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, in Sitio Suba, Barangay Talavera, Toledo City in western Cebu.
Zyphaliah’s friend, Gerly Navarro, 18, who had stayed overnight in the house, was also stabbed multiple times and suffered serious injuries. She was promptly rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Avelis was apprehended during a hot pursuit operation a few hours after the incident.

Toledo murder suspect asks for forgiveness
In an interview with DYSS Super Radyo, Avelis confessed to the crime, citing his anger towards the Edoloverio family for the previous trespassing charges and his time spent in jail.
“Mangayo lang ko ug pasaylo,” Avelis said.
He also admitted to being a drug user.

Charges will be filed
Zymvra Edoloverio, son of Zorovavel, stated that they would pursue charges against the suspect, emphasizing that he had trespassed on their property multiple times.
“Napriso nato ang suspect, nya gipyansahan man gyud sa ginikanan. Nya human sa pag-ikaduha niyang sud diri, nisud siya nya akong manghod ray naa. Ang last niya sud kay last week nya giingnan ni papa ang pamilya sa suspect nga palihog lang ko’g hipos sa inyong anak kay kabaw mo nga cancer na ba, tungod sa illegal drugs,” Zymvra said.
Zymvra also revealed that the suspect had harbored secret feelings for his sister, Sweetie, who is currently staying in Tuburan for her studies. However, Zymvra clarified that their father opposed any romantic involvement, and his sister did not share any feelings for the suspect.
Avelis will now face charges of double murder and frustrated murder.
